Some of my best dishes are vegan. I like vegan. I was modestly entranced with raw food a few years back. And it's easy to cook vegetables vegan (remind me to give you some of my roasted butternut squash with garlic as part of a sandwich with an apple-onion compote and some greens for crunch). I was underwhelmed. Another place where I felt no love. I liked the servers: super nice. And my drink was good. But the food was meh to methinks not.

Marvyn, Max & I ventured out on Saturday night. No rsvps anywhere. Decided to go here since I love the West Hollyood franchise. FYI: SF restaurant & menu are half the size of the WeHo one. Seating for 3 as walk-ins. Totally lucky. Poor ventilation indoors so get patio seating if you can. Pass on the sangrias. Gorditas were nice. Can't go wrong with anything with the roasted mushrooms. Communal seating. First time meeting our table mates. Fellow foodies. Shout out to Ann, Stefanie & Julie!

I wish I could rate this place 2.5 stars, but I'll be nice and give it 3. The food is very average. Service...hit or miss; but today in particular was very lacking. Every time I come here, my nickname for it seems more and more true. It's basically white people's excuse for Mexican food. I probably should have figured though, considering it's owned by the same people as cafe gratitude. Probably a better name for the restaurant would have been gracias puta, because I never feel like I'm fully satisfied after any meal I've had here.

Want to pay $15 for some plain steamed Broccoli and Cauliflower in a cold tortilla and pretend they are "Tacos"? Come to Gracias Madres! Service was OK at best and food was incredibly overpriced for what it was. You can make flavors with vegan ingredients, but clearly Gracias Madre is totally fine serving bland mush.

On a recent trip to some cooler climate we decided to check out this vegan restaurant. We were blown away with the amazing food. Everything tasted fresh. The veggies were cooked perfect and the spice level was just right. The tacos were a great size and the dessert was very flavorful. The cons of the restaurant were: ghetto area lock your car, the long wait time for a table, and the bartenders weren't that friendly. One bartender kept looking in the mirror at her face it was super creepy.

Incredible food with a lot of mix and match options. I came here for lunch, had the empanada, and shared a couple of sides with my friend. Not "authentic" food, the flavor profile was a little more unique, but it's hard to dis something that tastes fantastic. Wait service was only okay, but food came quickly and the heaters were a great outside addition.

WOW! I was super impressed with this place. I have to be honest, I think vegan cheese is gross, even after being vegan for 15 years I still haven't gotten into it. So the idea of vegan Mexicain food, didn't quite sit well with me. I was however surprised, this place is amazing. I had the veggie soft tacos. You got to pick three veggie stuffers, I got kale, plantains and cauliflower, and I loved all of them. It came with a couple sides which were amazing. I left feeling happy and full. I highly recommend coming here. I like this place more then cafe gratitude. Atmosphere is nice, dark and open. Nice wood furniture. Good friendly service

It's quite a challenge to make vegan food have escence and soul. Most of the times chefs will go for adding a lot of spices and hotness to the dish that usuall ends up engulfing the real taste of the ingredients. Gracias Madre fails at this in a bit where most of my food was just too saturated with condiments and hot spice and there wan't much depth to the dish or strong ingredients making a strong prescence in the dish. I would go again and try different dishes to see if I can find a good one for what I'm looking for.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
